Edmond Rube
Technical Director
Edmond’s work in technology innovation starts from a strong grasp of current key principles and future possibilities across a very broad range of scientific enquiry combined with a deep understanding of the effect, positive or negative, that an innovation may have on the natural world. He applies this capability in a telling way by delivering swift and innovative solutions to engineering challenges, whether in the laboratory, workshop or on site.
He has extensive experience in working in a diverse range of scientific fields, from mechanical engineering to analytical research, A particular interest lies in the manipulation of materials to produce architectural structures displaying new properties, involving complex chemical processes. His developmental work has also encompassed sensors, purification media, electronic and optical devices.
Edmond is a co-founder of the Helionix Group and has since the 1970s worked with a range of brilliant scientists including Marcel Vogel, the celebrated IBM Scientist, and Max Perutz where he contributed to his work in mapping of the structure of haemoglobin by X-Ray crystallography for which Vogel was awarded the Nobel Prize.
Kristian Bird
Architectural Designer and Building Materials Researcher
Having lived abroad for most of his childhood, Kristian only returned to England in 2003 where he was exposed to the issue of ‘sustainability’. Through his undergraduate architectural career his design projects focused on community buildings and their relationships to natural systems and networks.
Through a background in the adventure sports industry, Kristian has developed a keen interest in the wild outdoors. Alongside an education in sustainable architecture, he has managed to marry these two interests at Helionix Designs, in developing materials and designs for healthier places.
Kristian joined the team in 2014 on an internship placement as part of the ongoing research programme in ultra low impact construction. His current work includes leading the various architectural materials research projects within the group.
